Our Children....

‘Children are enthusiastic and active learners. They explore the vibrant learning environment and make some independent choices in their play’

Brookside pre-school is tucked away in the scout hut at the top of Gatley Hill. We are very fortunate to be surrounded by woods, fields and a stream.  We take full advantage of this and go out spontaneously on adventures.  We follow a Forest school approach whilst outdoors, we introduce safety and boundaries to the children and allow them to lead their own learning.  Children can explore nature, use natural resources to aid fantasy play and imagination, work as a team and develop life skills.  As a result of our frequent trips in the woods we develop children who are physically confident, tuned into their natural surroundings, imaginative, creative and aware of how to manage risks.  What important life skills for the children to develop!

Much of a child’s educational life is restricted to formal learning and assessment.  We therefore believe that the early years should be a time to make cherished memories.  Children must be allowed to enjoy the freedom to follow unique interests, explore and learn through trial and error, develop friendships and learn about ourselves and others.

We aim to offer a home from home environment where every child feels valued and cherished. Brookside offers a caring and nurturing environment with adults who gently support and encourage children to become independent and develop a natural curiosity for learning.
